Yes, I've changed the site again...Just take a look. I have added things and taken other things out. I'm sure I have numerous grammatical errors along with lots of misspelled words. Point them out if you must..it really doesn't matter that much since most of this stuff is meant for friends and family. Either way, check out my photos. Read my ramblings. Make a comment or two. What are you waiting for?

Harris Lake geocaches

Here’s a link to my page about the recent geocaches I hid at Harris Lake. I had a lot of fun putting them out there. I hope people have enjoyed finding them too.

Wish I was kayaking…

Just adding a short video to watch when I can’t be on the water. It might not be the most pristine shoreline but it’s better than sitting behind a desk. Progress Energy has been doing a lot of clear cutting of trees on the eastern shore (which is where I was standing). Some of the trees have ended up in the water. I’m sure that makes the local fishermen very happy.

My new KAYAK!

Posted By on July 10, 2011

Yay!!  I got my new kayak and I am so excited.  I’ve had a kayak for a couple of years now (check out my “Hobbies” page).  Anyway, the old one is considered a touring boat.  That means it’s long and narrow and used for longer trips- usually cuts through the water a little easier.  On the other hand, it’s hard to carry and not as stable as some of the wider boats.  After a suggestion from my Dad (he made it over and over), I decided to sell the old one and buy a new one.

My new kayak which is a perception prodigy 10.0

This is the NEW one.

I researched for a crazy amount of time.  I’m so particular when I buy something that is expensive.  I also want to find the one I’ll be happiest with once I’ve made the purchase.  First, I checked out the Old Town Vapor.  Rented it, tested it out…thought I was convinenced to go with that model.  Then, after a trip to REI, I was introduced to the Perception Prodigy.  Love at first sight.  No hesitation.  I ordered it online and waited with anticipation.  It finally came in and I took it out for it’s maiden voyage on 7/7/11.  It was everything I had hoped it would be.  You can expect me to post lots of pictures from future trips.  I’m so happy!

Geocache Containers

Containers I painted for geocaching

Ok, so most of my friends and family know that I love to geocache. Wait…I take that back. Most of them know I enjoy it but only a few actually understand the hobby. Anyway, I’m going on vacation next week and have already planned several “cache runs”. I’m hoping to visit Cane Creek Park to hide a few caches myself. Of course you know I’ll have to kayak there too. So…why not combine the two? PERFECT!! I’ve added a picture of the new cache containers that I painted today.  Wow, I can’t wait for Friday to get here!

New Sign

Posted By on April 17, 2011

I finally decided to work on a wooden sign for one of my co-workers. She had been asking for a long time and I promised her one for her birthday (we share the same day). I’m a few years late -yes, I do mean “years” – and she has never let me forget that. Anyway, I knew she wanted a sign for her yard with her last name and house numbers on it. I also knew that I wanted to incorporate my love for stained glass into the sign. Several different ideas came to mind, but I never could figure out how to put it all together. Then, one day, it clicked.

Wood and Stained Glass address sign

I had the design idea and was ready to start building. Here’s where my hopes were squashed. I just couldn’t get things to fit. I spent a week in my shop trying to come up with a better way to get it to hold shape and still look good. It caused a lot of frustration (mainly because I’m a perfectionist when it comes to these things). Another co-worker helped me figure it all out (thanks go out to him). After so much effort (plus some trial and error), I completed the project. I’m not really sure if she liked it or if it will be impressive to anyone.

All the time that went into it really seems like overkill since the design ended up being so simple. But, I can definitely say that I learned some things that will be helpful during my next wood working project.  Either way, I’m pleased with how it turned out and that’s what matters in the end. Let me know what you guys think!
